Modern Guitar Playing for the Young Ones by Arthur Deacon - 1961

Arthur Deacon (1924 - 1997) was a well known musician and guitar instructor in Cape Town, South Africa.

The Arthur Deacon School Of Guitar was situated at Strand Corner House on the corner of Strand and St. Georges Street in Cape Town during the early 1960's. The guitar school was known as the Classical Guitar Centre after the relocation to Dumbarton House on the corner of Adderley and Church Street during the late 1960's.  Arthur Deacon also taught guitar at the SA College Of Music, U.C.T. during this time.

My dad's 1961 guitar method was offered as a correspondence course for the beginner - the method book (divided into four separate sections) sold well and coincided with a huge interest in learning how to play the guitar during the 1960's with the emergence of popular groups like the Shadows and the Beatles.  My dad wrote, illustrated and printed the course with the use of a hand operated single drum Roneo mimeograph machine.
