Biography

Gary Deacon began playing the guitar at an early age under the guidance of his father, professional guitarist and teacher, Arthur Deacon.

Gary obtained numerous awards during the early years, including a Gold Diploma for outstanding performance on solo classical guitar.

Apart from various appearances on SABC TV, he has contributed towards numerous sessions and projects for the SABC, Fine Music Radio, commercial CD’s, advertising jingles and film music.

Gary has performed with the SA Navy Band, UCT Big Band, Cape Jazz Orchestra, UCT Symphony Orchestra and the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra and was the bass guitar instructor at the SA College of Music (UCT) Jazz Studies, from 1992 to 2007.
